Gene Hackman is terrific as the ex Southern sheriff who is now FBI with Willem Dafoe the younger more idealistic lead agent sent to investigate the disappearance and possible murder of 3 young activists in the Civil Rights movement. Brilliant film, based on a true story about 3 missing students during the time of racial tensions in the southern states of America. Both Hackman and DaFoe are superb, as are the supporting caste (especially Brad Dourif, who is always effective when portraying unsavory characters).
