Too bad it arrives wrapped in doggerel. Perhaps the problem wasn't with the actors, but because the script never gave me a good reason to believe why Kiera's character was passionate about Thomas in the first place. Sienna Miller gave a wonderful performance, and Cillian Murphy and Matthew Rhys were more than just a mirror. Much prefer her in Pirates or P & P. In this she plays a character who is very different to her previous roles - she's more down-to-earth, easier to relate to.This, to me is, by far her best performance. I was surprised that I actually found this film beautiful and intriguing - at first I wasn't sure but it drew me in and by the end I was completely hooked! A film with Kiera Knightly at her best...and everyone else at their best too, great film set during the second world war - partly in London, partly in Wales. This film pushes the boundaries of being artistically pretentious. The Edge of Love is literate and often lovely to look at, but unless you're requesting an off-key bohemian rhapsody, do not go gentle into that good theater. The story of a married silkworm merchant-turned-smuggler in 19th century France traveling to Japan for his town's supply of silkworms after a disease wipes out their African supply.
