Action packed and filled with intrigue, passion, betrayals and unforgettable battle sequences, it held my attention throughout in spite of its 160 minute length. Combined with close attention to scale and masterful cinematography indoors and out, "Jing ke ci qin wang" is a stunning tale told with great reverence in its own idiom that captivates completely. These things set against a Chinese historical perspective increase this idea. The portrait of the Qin King is also less impressive here. 4 out of 5 found this helpful. This time Chen took three years after his previous film and came back with a movie about the first Chinese emperor Qin and his legendary story with a woman he loves, his adversary and an assassin in very ancient China of 221 BC. Yin Zheng (Xuejian Li) is the ruler of one region of China, who seeks to do what no man has been able to do before, unify China.

While the story does deal with the conquering of kingdoms throughout China, the action is very slim.

Change our minds. Qin Shi Huang's accomplishments radiate an awe all the way across two thousand years into the present and Li captures his frightening will without compromising his humanity. This is an epic film about the unification of the ancient kingdoms of China in the third century BC. You can still see all customer reviews for the product. This is a film I can comfortably recommend to a wide variety of friends and acquaintances. After seeing dressed up action films, like the two mentioned above, Emperor and the Assassin was a godsend. "The Emperor and the Assassin" is one of the best films of the year. Quality of the movie was good. This is the type of Chinese movie we want. Though I've only seen it once, I believe that Chen Kaige should be given more credit for his camera work than other reviewers have allowed him. The most attractive role in the movie is Marquis Changxin, he married Qin's mother and most time he looks like idiot but actually he has his own ambitious plan. In reality (again, according to Sima Qian), he was a heavy drinker and put off his visit to Qin for as long as possible, spending a good deal of time with the ladies of Yan before the crown prince finally ordered him on his way. Ying Zheng had a dream in which he joined together the seven kingdoms into a single utopian state, and taking this as a mandate from God, he invaded the nearby state of Han as the first step toward this goal. However, Lady Zhao did not choose the would-be assassin wisely; while Jing Ke (Zhang Fengyi) loved her and was willing to do her bidding, Jing Ke's previous assassination assignment caused the unintended death of an innocent blind girl, which left him full of regret and a bit unstable. Fasten your seatbelt and feel lucky that this fore-runner of Sauron is not alive today. For a feature film, the plot closely follows history--or at least historical gossip. The story moves along nicely with plenty of drama and action.
