On Dangerous ground is one of the best ever film noirs. Mary rekindles his compassion.This is a beautifully remastered and restored edition, clean and clear and shadowy. A blind girl who is the young man's sister tries to help her brother get help in the midst of the chaos.

Mostly it's the acting and the character development in this film that makes it such a gem.

Ryan's gravity, tension and capacity for savagery are in full whack during the first third of the movie; the scene where he beats up a suspect is scarier than anything by Wes Craven, because we seem to learning something about human beings instead of about film cliches.

Some people often claim this film as a failure because they think it is made of awkward two parts, the city part and the country part. (It's worth remembering that the RADA-trained Lupino - actually English, but with an immaculate American accent - was a fine director of tough movies in her own right, and the story goes that she directed some of the scenes in this herself when Nicholas Ray was ill.) The ending is approaching Bresson territory, in this viewer's opinion.
