Like how often does it happen in an Imtiaz Ali film?There were brief instances where traces of the contemporary Imtiaz Ali idiosyncrasy shone, however the overall movie felt tediously shapeless.Aditi (Ayesha Takia) & Viren (Abhay Deol) say no to an arranged marriage proposal leading to a tension between the two families.Abhay Deol in his debut film was cast quite perfectly in the role of a rich spoilt brat who runs away from responsibilities and spends his whole day partying and enjoying with his gang. 1 out of 1 found this helpful. Ayesha's character was very straightforward and in a scene when she tells Abhay Deol that his girl friend won't like him hanging out with her, the speech was very realistic. Cinematography is mediocre, almost every close is a tight one; a scene that is supposed to take place in the dark of the night has footage from the daylight; and the performances are inconsistent. The vivacious actress seems very down-to-earth and straightforward. The supporting cast, that includes Ayesha Jhulka as a hot bhabhi, Rati Agnihotri as a hot-headed aunt, Suresh Oberoi as the patriarchal dad, Sandhya Mridul as the supportive sister, Vijay Maurya as the friend in need and Rajendranath Zutshi as the angry but hilarious brother, is very good. Maybe I liked it so much because these Bollywood movies present such a fresh new take on romantic stories. It has its moments in a bit of humor in the first half, in some great acting by young Ayesha Takia and in some melodious songs, but there's nothing that makes you caw in glee after like 30 minutes. Their characters do a good job of reflecting the (shouldn't be stereotyping...) overall youth culture. The dialogues are very 'day to day'... which contribute that the movie is not out of this world. Apart from being based on a morally dubious plot, the film splatters all over itself as it moves into the second half, with no entertainment in an all-uphill losing battle by a witless Viren trying to fend off a terribly excited avalanche. Abhay puts forth a honest performance and the director truly takes us through a breezy ride, pleasant as a walk through the jungle on a windy morning.

Frustrating.Dharmendra chose well for his nephew Abhay Deol’s debut film, Socha Na Tha [I Never Imagined]. Definitely worth a watch.. Year 2020 - a few days short of Valentine's day is the first time I watched this movie. I thought this movie was going to be a typical, romantic cliché. Not a tremendous actor, but her acting has some reality to it (unfortunately, her character does not.) From the word go, it's a charming tale of two strangers falling in love and not knowing it until its very late and then the chaos ensues. But its premise, screenplay are a complete fun to watch. The songs are cool and calm and they agree with the pace of the film.
