A little on the predictable side because everything turns up just perfect in the end... but getting there is a fun cinematic journey. Lucy Hill (Renée Zellweger) is an ambitious, up and coming executive living in Miami. Pranks are pulled on her by the locals to demonstrate the limits of her knowledge. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 28, 2012 As ever, Renée has a great light comedic touch, but is also a heartbreakingly touching actress, vulnerability behind a veneer of ambition and success. It really depicts the daily grind of what it would be like to be a "city girl" who is accustomed to luxury to suddenly be dropped into sub-zero humble living, and boy does it make for great comedy.
New in Town, from 2009, is a fairly unoriginal outing - a successful, ambitious business woman goes into the far flung reaches of the USA to close down an inefficient food processing plant, is ambushed by the idiosyncratic, wily and combative local workforce and community, eventually comes round to their way of thinking, and .... well not to spoil the plot (you can guess the rest). Some reviewers took offense at the portrayal of the Minnesota characters. This was a parody of sorts as I have friends in New Ulm and it's not as "Minnesotan" as it's portrayed.

Stand-up comedian John Mulaney tackles such red-hot topics as quicksand, Motown singers and an elderly man he once met in a bathroom. I think it is a lovely chick flick and it never fails to cheer me up especially as I am a big fan of Harry Connick Jr and Renee.

As a Minnesotan, my video library contains some "must own" classics such as Fargo and Grumpy/Grumpier Old Men, those stereotypical movies we watch and laugh at ourselves when it's too cold to go outside and do anything productive. Love this film! If you need a movie to help you get away for awhile, without leaving the house, then get lost for an hour or so and go from Miami to Minnesota with this Super Feel Good Movie!! It does help the fun of the story if you have a rough idea of the U.S. way of life in certain areas. 2012 TV-MA 1h Stand-Up Comedy & Talk Shows. Sure the Minnesotan's might have been a bit of a stereotype but hey folks, it's a comedy, so it's meant to be a lighthearted poking fun at the culture, and it turns out to be very sweet and endearing. The quirky storyline and awkward characters set in a freezing Minnesota location are great. But my favorites by far were the secretary, the factory foreman (whom you will surely recognize) and all the townspeople, with enough warmth to melt the iciest of hearts.
