These two works are not part of the autobiographical series (six books) that begins with "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings."

Of course, there are the classic Am...Even the Stars Look Lonesome is Maya Angelou talking of the things she cares about most. Sections in this second book are longer and also a bit deeper and more developed compared to the previous book. But it is too good to just know that such a Giant Public Figure & Pillar of the Black Community she too has flaws, she shares with us her pain & struggles which too brings her that much closer to us and makes it feel like we are really Family.I loved this book! When I was young, it was my lucky fortune to have a great grandmother who--in spite of all contrary evidence--acted as though I was the best thing that happened in her life. I love how she grew into her older self and owned it and inhabited it. I do highly recommend it. By the time it was published, Angelou was well-respected and popular as a writer and poet. 10 likes. Maya discusses her marriages, her childhood, Oprah, sensuality vs. sexuality including having sex as you're getting older. I didn't grow up as a minority and only became an Asian immigrant as an adult. Overall, glad I read it.Maya Angelou is wonderfully and fully human and never apologizes for it.

She talks about the bravery black people, black women specifically, demonstrate simply for existing given the brutal history that brought their ancestors to the US. In her unique, spellbinding way, she re-creates intimate personal experiences and gives us her wisdom on a wide variety of subjects.
