Though I am an avid crab fishing (deadliest catch) fan so did enjoy this part.

I enjoyed reading about it, however I would have enjoyed hearing more about the rest of the family, too. It is amazing how the Spirit guides you in this world.I won "True North" on Goodreads First-Reads. However, after reading this book, I found it to be a terrible shame that all those children had to endure so much abuse in their liveTom North tells how his life changed after his real father dies. In 1968, a movie called Yours, Mine and Ours was released.

Their union prompted wide media coverage and inspired a book and two movies titled “ Yours, Mine and Ours,” the first starring Henry Fonda and … Rather, he and the former Helen North had 20 after merging two very large families in a second marriage for both, he as a widower and she as a widow. I would like to read his sisters book to get another perspective on it but can't seem to find it anywhere?This was a very hard book to read but at the same time the message of hope and healing prevailed. They are: Charles, Joseph, Mary and Veronica Beardsley; Colleen, Janet, Thomas, Nicholas, Gerald and Phillip North; and Rosemary Richter, Louise Ingram, Susan Pope, Joan Rodewald, Jean Murphy, Teresa Wyble and Helen Vanucchi.Mr. Though I find nothing wrong with that as his way to heal, I just wished the book had been marketed that way. Interesting to read after watching the movie. The first 60 pages are about the Norths and the "lie" movie--but that leaves 270 pages! “True North” is the biography of a man whose childhood was depicted in the 1968 movie “Yours, Mine, and Ours” – a comedy about a widow with eight children who marries a widower with ten children. It nearly brought me to tears when, later on in the book, I was led through the journey Tom went through to turn his life around. I will most likely never watch the movie again.This is Tom’s story how he survived and eventually overcame heartbreak, abuse, and neglect.Once you start reading True North by Tom North, you won't want to put it down. I recieved an autographed copy and was thrilled to see it personalized.

There is some, sure. There is some, sure. Not so good. Not until the final 40 pages does he again get back to the North family theme. Yes, it did give little details of the North/Beardsley household, the majority of the book was about Mr. North and meditation. And I was so happy to receive a signed copy. Published

With so many family members (too many?) I cried near the end of this book. This is the problem with publishing today, there are low standards and any one can self publish and promote.

In real life there wasn’t much to laugh about. The drama and fear were not realized, as the writer has no ability to structure his material in a compelling way. I really wish Tom all the best and am so glad his life has been turned around. They were well written though, just woulNot so good. Start by marking “True North: The Shocking Truth about "Yours, Mine and Ours"” as Want to Read: I enjoyed this book. Whether it was the serenity and security of being surrounded by this living liquid, or the total distraction of the adventure of the unknown which took me far away from the daily weight of the child abuse and violence at home, I sank beneath the surface, and if only for those few moments, was free.”“With every breath and thought, or non-thought, I was communicating with, and connecting with the wild – mountains, whales, eagles; even the stars – the Big Dipper and the North Star shining brightly in the Alaska night sky on my Alaska adventure served to point me to a safe harbor, within.” The movie on which this familys lives are based is one of my favorites.

The family portrayed in the movie was happy - sure they had ups and downs but you saw love. Also the stories about fishing and nature were unendurably long and meandering for the tastes of an average reader. What Tom North and the rest of his siblings had to deal with growing up no child should have to go through. Tom North has written a compelling and inspirational book. The movie on which this familys lives are based is one of my favorites. I found Tom North’s journey into Transcendental Meditation fascinating. It's based on the true story of Tom North and how his family was the inspiration behind the film "Yours, Mine and Ours" starring Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda. I was horrified by his descriptions of the abuse his stepfather Frank Beardsley subjected him and his siblings to, but he described it in such a compelling way that I kept wanting to turn the pages anyhow. She should have protected her children yet it was her who put them in that situation. He has led a very diverse and interesting life, learning from his mistakes and changing the pattern of abuse he lived for many years rather than perpetuating them.True North: The Shocking Truth about Yours, Mine & Ours is a memoir by Tom North, one of the children in the Beardsley/North marriage that the 1968 movie, Yours, Mine and Ours was based on.

It starred Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda and was based on the story of a widow and widower who married and combined their families and who had a total of eighteen children between them at the time of their marriage. In closing, whether you've gone through physical or verbal abuse yourself or not, you will certainly be moved by this book, and it will leave a strong emotional impression on you that will last at least a few days.

I was fascinated by the first third of this book. A year later, he married Helen Brandmeir North, who died in 2000. He needed a good editor, if such thing exists today. I found Tom North’s journey into Transcendental Meditation fascinating. I recieved an autographed copy and was thrilled to see it personalized. I'm sure life was not rosy and everyone in that huge family must have their own truth.
