Was mir gut gefallen hat, ist, dass der Film unkonventionell daher kommt, mit dem Unterbewusstsein arbeitet, und man sich über lange Zeit vieles selbst zusammenreimen muss. Es wird die Welt eines jungen, reichen und sehr attraktiven New Yorker Playboys gezeigt, der in eine große Krise mit seinen Frauengeschichten kommt, und als Konsequenz einen Unfall hat, bei dem er im Gesicht entstellt wird. Despite solid showings from both Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz is the one to steal the show, bringing a sense of beauty to the love interest role that is often sought after in romantic films. This may be the best Cameron Diaz has ever been, as the creepy but seductive Julie Gianni.

Mir hat der Film schon als Jugendliche sehr gut gefallen und noch heute finde ich ihn wunderschön inszeniert. Vanilla Sky hatte es bei den Kritikern nicht leicht, ein Hollywood-Remake von einem gerade mal 3 Jahre altem Film lässt schließlich kaum einen anderen Schluss zu, als dass es sich hier um eine Mainstream-Vermarktunghandelt um noch einmal ordentlich die Kassen klingeln zu lassen. Ebenso brilliant spielt der vom Unfall entstellte Tom Cruise seine Rolle - er zeigt dabei das Thema: Körperschönheit, Erfolg und Selbstwert auf. Vanilla Sky is nearly identical to the 1997 Spanish film it's based on, except it's set in Manhattan instead of Madrid and has a much better soundtrack.

Jason Lee also achieves this authenticity as Cruise's best friend, begging the question, "why hasn't Jason Lee been in more high profile roles like this".
