Use features like bookmarks, note taking and highlighting while reading Strangers When We Meet: A Novel. To a contemporary reader the attitudes of the men towards the women are quite disturbing. He loves his wife, Eve, and is devoted to their two small sons.
I enjoyed all of the series of Coopers Corner and feel I know the characters personally. Parents to two young boys, they have settled into domesticity and, perhaps, a certain complacency.
This one is unusual since it has a Russian heroine and has some regulations involved. I love the old movie starring Kirk Douglas and Kim Novak as they fall in love and sizzle their affair onto the movie screen.
This was not my usual cup of tea and although I didn't hate it its not really something I would choose again as i felt it was a bit to "preachy" and "churchy" if that makes sense. I read to escape and dream not to listen to sermons and this felt a bit too religious for my liking.The final chapter does tie the loose ends up quite a bit.

Evan Hunter makes that quite clear.Larry and Eve have a contented, happy marriage.
To be fair, Larry isn’t quite as misogynistic but even so sees Margaret as more a conduit to his own self-fulfilment than as a person with her own needs, and Hunter’s attitude to her at the end seems to imply that she is little more than a sexual object.

It's one of the things I love the about the "Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" - New York in the 50's.
I recommend it, along with Hunter's other most famous work, The Blackboard … I rooted for Larry to do the right thing but he really was not a good guy. When she was 17, she went to boarding school in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she learned to speak French and met girls from all over the world. No one should romanticize war; but soldiers are romantic people I believe. But all this is very interesting in its way and I enjoyed spending time with these almost exclusively unpleasant people and grateful that I didn’t have to do so in real life.
