Sting performs at the Ravinia Festival Pavilion as part of his “My Songs Tour.” (Ravinia Festival / Patrick Gipson) It was an ideal summer evening this past Friday when a certain Englishman by the name of Sting drew a capacity crowd of 16,000 people to the Ravinia Festival’s Pavilion and lawn for the first of two concerts. There is only one word to sum up Sting’s My Songs… with American Authors (Aug. 30); Queen Latifah and Common (Aug. 31); Steely Dan (Sept. 1-2); Lenny Kravitz (Sept. 7); Kesha (Sept. 8); Mary J. Blige (Sept. 13) and Morrissey with Interpol (Sept. 14). The opening bass gives the song a funkier feel. The undeniably catchy “Brand New Day” and Indian-inspired “Desert Rose” entirely captures Sting’s past experimentation in a nutshell. This album presents itself better as a Greatest Hits anthology, even if it wasn’t Sting’s initial intention. Nearly all of the songs on the program were drawn from “Sting: My Songs,” an album released this past May that features remixed, reimagined, and “re-contemporized” versions of some of the greatest hits from his years with the Police, plus some solo favorites. My Songs is a total waste of time for a variety of reasons.
VIP Packages 2020 ... Sting “My Songs Tour” 2020/2021. It’s almost as if Sting’s label lost all of his hit ballads, and told the singer/bassist to redo them in 2019. He’s not doing this for the love of art. Review. My career rides on the coattails of a great man. Sting plays this album off as if it’s some kind of creative epiphany, when really it’s just a lazy attempt at winning fans over after the abysmal collaboration with This is also Sting’s second attempt at a re-mastered project, the first coming in 2010 (The record’s loss of resourcefulness is a perfect representation of how irrelevant the Police singer has become.
He’s not doing much to help this problem either.
