Not necessary excluding women, but the title says it all: Black is King. For that reason, and what the title of this 1 hour and half long "artsy" music video implies (that a race in and of itself can be linked to something superior), I am indeed offended by this choice. I think “Lemonade” is the more satisfying and cohesive feature, partially because the Disney tie-in here was always a bit clunky, even on the album, and it adds a somewhat superficial layer to the proceedings. The title alone is enough to turn you away and the hour and half long film appears to be a desperate attempt at some sort of award. Very weird time to release a vanity piece like "Black is King".

Still, the way Beyoncé melds this film’s imagery in the closing number with “Spirit,” her contribution to “The Lion King”’s soundtrack, gave me a newfound appreciation for the song. To remove all the humanity and make it about being supreme and "royal" is beyond me. Racism goes both ways and I feel like that shouldn't need to be said since it's 2020, but here we are. Better watch something else like a good old fashion western She’s in great voice here and handles what appears to be seven million incredible costume changes with preternatural ease and finesse.

To be quite honest, I do not know why you are even here. Perhaps Beyonce and Disney would like to put more effort in helping the poor and suffering in Africa by spending the money they wasted on this on providing clean water, proper education for the children and medicines to combat the terrible diseases afflicting many Africans who live in countries where their politicians live in splendour and the children die because of a lack of clean water. Cinematography is less than mediocre, the director(s) is clearly lacking professional knowledge and talent, the "acting" is really bad and the claim to be art is just ridiculous. "Black is King" is a movie supposedly based on the morals and story of the 2019 Lion King, connected by Beyonce's music; a visual album. Black is King is one of the worst "movies" I ever watched, I don't get what the message should be. 79 out of 109 found this helpful. This has to be one of the most desperate and worst things I've ever seen. Btw, Beyoncé, monarchs are oppressive. Regardless, viewers will be thankful that this particular spirit moved the makers of “Black is King” toward creating a very watchable and highly recommended inspirational piece of art.Odie "Odienator" Henderson has spent over 33 years working in Information Technology. Besides, the written word cannot completely relay the experience of watching it. What a huge disappointment! As a Beyoncé fan and lover of all things Disney, I had hoped to be able to enjoy this movie with my wife and three teenage girls. More boring, uninspired, racial dividing trash that has been shoved in our faces for what feels like forever now. Just stop this ridiculousness. On occasion, a familiar face fills the frame—fellow Destiny’s Child Poetry by Warsan Shire and dialogue from the “Lion King” remake form the bridges between songs and the narrative structure, what little there is, very loosely follows the story of Simba taking his place in the Circle of Life.

Every shade and hairstyle gets its own fashion magazine-style layout or shout-out, to the point where you want to pause the movie to stare and marvel with envy.Meanwhile, our tour guide and lead singer is chased, encircled, and tailed by the camera as she takes center stage or cedes the spotlight to her musical co-conspirators.
