February 15, 2019 That, along with the lack of heart that best pictures of the genre have, hold this movie back from greatness. Walt Disney Productions "The Great Mouse Detective" reflects the energy and enthusiasm of a talented group of young artists stretching their wings for the first time. Not too disappointing as I thought with the premise and the clever mischievous Fidget bat, but the two songs "The World's Greatest Criminal Mind" and "Let Me Be Good to You" were not memorable and the automaton idea for a monarchy control was far from diabolical enough for so-called "greatest criminal mind" Ratigan. The Great Mouse Detective is fun from start to finish for me as an adult.

So many of these movies throw song after song at the audience and to me, that just ruins the pace of the film. Older kids may be less enthused by this mousy story, though parents, particularly Basil Rathbone fans, will marvel at the accuracy with which this sophisticated homage hits Holmes. Adults will enjoy the wit and style.
