The budget that he had throughout the making of his films was always under constant jeopardy, thanks mostly to the disastrous results his movies had in the box office at the time. Like the classics The House That Screamed and Suspiria, this film focuses on an all-girl boarding house. However, I'm just of the belief that if something is truly classic and worthy of long-lasting praise and adulation, then it will stand the test of time rather than having holes poked in it as time progresses for being "of its day" or "rather quaint".That said, when I was watching the Mexican ghost story Even The Wind Fears (or Even The Wind Is Afraid, as it's more regularly called) I did…The mythos doesn’t fully stick the landing, but there are some very effective and atmospheric scares.

In an all-girls school, a student begins having nightmares about a hanged, former student. Especially with that ending, it was so dramatic that it has to be seen. Love how they yell in this movie, they have to dramatically put their arms over their heads and let out a long scream, then faint.Just a little disappointing, given Taboada's reputation--it felt pretty spooky & young adult & at first I was really taken with the "delirious" corals & earthtones but after a while it sort of looked a little ugly and sad.

Naturally the girls are not too pleased, and things take a turn for the worse when a long dead student is sighted during the heavy winds, and seems to be after a student named Claudia...Rolling Stone's Greatest Horror Movies of the 21st Century While not as prolific as the USA, UK and Italy; Mexico is responsible for many great horror films; with the sixties in particular being something of a goldmine for the horror fan. HASTA EL VIENTO TIENE MIEDO (?Even the Wind is Afraid?) Real scares in a mix of the styles of Mario Bava and Val Lewton! I liked their red blazers. The build is efficiently used to flesh out the characters and unravel the story.
Little he knew that he would become the definitive icon of Mexican suspenseful filmmaking since some decades later. I kind of wish that the final scene was missing as it has such a great crescendo, that a bleak final scene would have left the perfect lasting impression.
